Yungong Xunyin (Immortal Sound Above Cloud Palace)

As the opening theme of the 1986 TV series *Journey to the West*, *Cloud Palace Sprint* has become a household classic thanks to its lively rhythm and distinctive musical style. Now, we have reimagined its melody through folk music arrangements, giving this timeless piece a brand-new voice. Breaking away from conventional musical arrangements, this version is re-orchestrated with traditional Chinese instruments including the guzheng, bamboo flute and ethnic percussion. Delightful melodies flow through string and wind instruments, while powerful beats burst forth from gongs and drums. The music evokes the misty, ethereal aura of the Heavenly Palace as well as the unrestrained spirit of roaming amid the clouds. Classics never fade, and music keeps evolving. This folk music rendition is not only a tribute to fond childhood memories, but also a fresh showcase of the charm of traditional Chinese folk music. Listening to the piece, one feels as if wandering in the celestial cloud palace and reliving the unforgettable adventures of *Journey to the West*.

Tarakihi

Tārakihi, which means "cicada" in the Māori language, is a classic folk song in Māori culture that sings praises of nature and pays homage to the earth. The chirping of cicadas ringing through the forests on summer nights forms the most enchanting natural rhythm across the South Pacific islands, embodying the Māori people's reverence and affection for the land, nature and all living beings. Now, bridging distant lands and seas with traditional Chinese folk music, we present a new interpretation of this Māori ode to nature. The clear and melodious bamboo flute vividly imitates the crisp and graceful chirps of cicadas, just as summer cicadas flutter their wings amid the woods. The mellow guzheng unfolds the serene and profound ambiance of the forest, like evening breezes brushing through leaves and branches. The lingering tones of the erhu evoke the vastness and remoteness of the Māori homeland, while traditional Chinese percussion echoes the rhythms of nature and the distinctive beats of Māori traditions. This adaptation retains the original work's natural spirit and Māori rhythms, while infusing it with the unique subtlety, gentleness and artistic conception of Eastern folk music. There are no language barriers, only the resonance of nature; no cultural divides, but the harmonious blend of music. When the cicada songs of the South Pacific islands meet the traditional Chinese string and wind instruments, it becomes a heartfelt dialogue between Māori culture and Chinese heritage, as well as a shared echo of humanity living in harmony with nature. Come and listen to Tārakihi. Amid the melodies of traditional Chinese instruments and the simulated chirps of cicadas, let us embark on a transcultural journey connected by nature across mountains and oceans.

Unrestrained (Traditional Chinese Instrumental Version)

Rejecting vocal performance, *Unrestrained* is rearranged with traditional Chinese folk musical instruments. The melodious bamboo flute sets the opening tone, the expressive erhu pours forth heartfelt emotions, plucked instruments build layered accompaniment, and diverse folk instruments blend in harmonious resonance. Its mellow traditional Chinese timbre strips away the pop texture of the original version. With time-honored melodies, it narrates the tender bond between bosom friends who meet and wander side by side amid mountains and rivers. Within its lingering, graceful tunes lie all the romantic tales of the martial world and lifelong emotional ties.
