About the Orchestra

The New Zealand Chinese Orchestra traces its origins to the former Silk Road National Orchestra. Founded in 1997, it has a history spanning 28 years. Most of our members have professional musical backgrounds, including teachers from conservatories in China, performers from provincial music ensembles, and other outstanding young musicians with strong professional credentials. Since its founding, the orchestra has been dedicated to the performance and promotion of high-quality traditional Chinese music, with performances across New Zealand that have earned the appreciation of audiences and acclaim from the industry.
