Strings stir pure notes to rise; the melody fades yet its lingering charm survives.
Biography
Mo Jianru is a guzheng performer with the New Zealand Chinese Orchestra and has been learning and playing the guzheng for two decades. She received her initial training from Cen Shaohong, a student of the renowned guzheng performer and composer Lin Jian. Later, she pursued further studies at prestigious institutions including Guangxi Arts University and Xinghai Conservatory of Music.
She is celebrated for her exquisite performing style and consummate techniques. During her studies in New Zealand, equipped with superb guzheng skills and profound theoretical knowledge, she delivered a presentation and performance titled *The Diverse Expressive Forms of the Guzheng and Natural Music* in 2019, for which she was awarded the First-Class National Scholarship for Music in New Zealand.
Over the past three years, she has won numerous accolades, such as the First Prize in the Youth Group of the 2nd Dunhuang Cup and the Outstanding Instructor Award at the Performance Exhibition hosted by the Guangdong Guzheng Society.
While polishing her own performing artistry, she has actively engaged in community art practices and music education. Starting from 2024, she co-founded Viacloud, a studio for guzheng teaching and performances in Auckland. She has led school Chinese folk orchestras and guzheng ensembles to take part in various large-scale cultural exchange events and charity performances on many occasions, devoting herself to promoting traditional Chinese music across overseas regions.
In 2025, she officially joined the New Zealand Chinese Orchestra. As she continues to refine her performing skills, she is committed to inheriting and popularizing traditional Chinese music abroad. She hopes to make friends through music and build an artistic bridge for cultural exchanges between China and New Zealand.
