Erhu Performer

New blood in the team with untapped potential

Biography

William Zhou has been learning the erhu since childhood. He studied under teachers from the former Jilin Provincial Opera School and Jilin College of the Arts, receiving systematic training in traditional Chinese folk music and building a solid foundation in performance through years of diligent practice.

During his school years, he took part in numerous performances, competitions and cultural activities both on and off campus. He also passed the art talent admission examinations of Jilin University and Dalian University of Technology. After enrolling at Jilin University, he joined the university's Chinese Folk Music Orchestra, taking part in regular rehearsals and performances. He also exchanged ideas and collaborated on folk music with fellow students majoring in art-related disciplines.

My Musical Creed: Though I did not pursue a career in professional music later on, my passion for the erhu and traditional Chinese folk music has never faded. The erhu has been my companion for many years and accompanied me through the most important stages of my school life. After moving to New Zealand, I hope to make new friends through music, play ensemble pieces and share ideas with others, and keep embracing the charm of Chinese folk music in a foreign land.
