Biography
Wang Qingmei was admitted to the Yangqin major of the Traditional Chinese Music Department at Xi'an Conservatory of Music in 1982 and achieved outstanding academic performance during her studies. After graduating in 1986, she stayed on as a faculty member. She has been engaged in the teaching and research of traditional Chinese music at the Musicology Department and the Music Research Institute successively, and took up the post of Director of the Traditional Music Teaching and Research Office under the Musicology Department in 1990.
She moved to New Zealand in 1995 and founded the New Zealand Chinese Silk Road Traditional Music Ensemble in 1997. In September 2025, she established the New Zealand Chinese Orchestra. For nearly thirty years, she has been committed to promoting the fine traditional Chinese music culture and enriching the multicultural landscape of New Zealand, making consistent and remarkable contributions.
